The Orvis Hunting and Shooting Podcast
The Orvis Hunting and Shooting Podcast (formerly the Double Barrel Podcast) with host, Reid Bryant brings you hunting and shooting tips for more success and fun in the field.

Whit Fosburgh of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership is working hard in DC to guarantee Americans quality places to hunt and fish. Reid sat down with him in the podcast studio for a great interview about their work and how you can help.

In this episode  guest Pat Berry joins Reid in discussing top tips for assessing likely cover and gaining access.  Pat, the former Vermont Commissioner of Fish and Game, has spent a career studying those places where grouse and woodcock collect, and he shares his thoughts on how best to find those spots, and how to successfully ensure that your presence in those spots is both legal respectful.

This week I have a long and fascinating interview with Mike Schmidt, designer of such giant trout streamers as the Junkyard Dog.  He gives up his secrets on when to fish a giant streamer (and when not to), what techniques he uses, and also some tips on tying these flies and why he designs them the way he does.  I don·t think I have learned so much in a podcast in a long time and I hope you find it as inspiring and interesting as I need.  I am ready to charge out there with some giant streamers right away.

In the Fly Box this week, we range from catching smallmouth bass in clear lakes to catching stocked trout and channel catfish in Houston, how to get more involved in the fly-fishing industry, whether or not wings are necessary on a dry fly, and much more.

Waterfowl junkie T.L. Lauerman of Wapsi Fly Co. chats with Reid about decoy spreads and strategies for different waterfowl scenarios.  T.L., who hunts a variety of terrain in the Arkansas wetlands, covers details from decoy selection, spread size and orientation, and the value of adding motion.  T.L. and Reid barely scratch the surface of all there is to say about waterfowling, but T.L. vows to return for more!
